Toss: Won by Ansty
Ansty, fielding five junior players, bowed out of the Cup at home to Newick after being set a target of 239 to win. Chris Murphy made the difference for Newick by clubbing 72 off just 48 deliveries. Earlier Danny Saunders had laboured to 53 and Tim Gill hit 49 with Newick making 238 for 8 off 40 overs. For Ansty, Simon Parsons (3 for 49) and Neil Machin (2 for 45) were the pick of the bowlers. In reply, David Croydon (30) and Leo Anderson (22) hit an opening stand of 44 in just six overs, but tight bowling from Rupert Thacker (2 for 24) and Saunders (2 for 34) put a halt to Ansty’s progress. Former Newick player Paul Osborn chipped in with 21 and young Chris Barnes made 17, but Ansty fell on 180 all out with one ball remaining with Dave Winnard mopping up with 3 for 33.
