Brighton & Hove v Ansty
ECB U15 Cup
(at The Nevill Playing Fields, Hove)
Toss: Won by Ansty
Ansty progressed into the semi finals of the ECB under 15 Cup with a good win against Brighton & Hove at the Nevill. Ansty, batting first, suffered an early set back with the loss of Jonathan Crickmore in the second over, but James Wright (51 retired) formed useful partnerships with Chris Barnes (18) and Jonathan Young (50 not out) to take Ansty to a healthy total of 143 for 3. Will Howie was the pick of the Brighton bowlers with 2 for 19 off four overs.
Ansty’s bowlers took time to adjust to the run up at the far end of the square, but at the other Jethro Menzies produced a fine opening spell (4-2-17-2) to restrict Brighton’s progress. With good support eventually coming from Ansty’s other bowlers, Brighton were put under increasing pressure and could not maintain the pace. Despite some big blows from Jackson (21) and Howie (20) they eventually fell 23 runs short.
