Horsham v Ansty
U14 Identilam League Semi Final
(at Horsham)
Toss: Won by Ansty
Ansty won the toss and decided to bowl in this Identilam semi final against Horsham. It was a fine sunny morning but the ground was extremely damp. Horsham set the pace and by the 5th over had put on 25. Wickets did not fall quickly and Horsham had reached 85 for 3 by the end of the 16th over. Then newcomer James Whybrow came on to bowl and took 3 wickets for 4 runs in his 2 overs. Horsham finished their innings on 103 for 6.
Nick Smith and Oliver Meredith opened the Ansty batting and slowly built a good partnership before Smith was bowled with the score on 39, however 11 overs had already gone. Meredith was joined by Sofie Cawley and the score started to accelerate but Meredith slipped and retired hurt. However by the 15th over Ansty had got 69 on the board with the loss of only 2 wickets. Then in came James Dowell who proceeded to attack the bowling and off the first seven balls he faced he scored 21 runs including two sixes and a four. This put Ansty in a much stronger position and although they lost 5 wickets cheaply Dowell having retired on 25 came back to hit the winning boundary. Ansty finished on 107 for 8 and thoroughly deserved their win.
