Ansty v Pulborough

Toss: Won by Ansty
Having won the toss Ansty chose to bat, almost immediately this looked the wrong decision, the ball held up on the soft damp wicket, to the extent of appearing to go into slow motion, this combined with some slow accurate bowling foxed all but 3 of the Ansty batsmen. Luckily opener Will Bennett got his eye in and worked hard in the difficult conditions to get to 26 retired. Jethro Menzies chose to cope with the conditions by hitting out, reaching 20 before being caught. Nick Smith coming in at no 8 reached a very credible 17 made up mainly of singles and some excellent running.
By the time Pulborough came in to bat the sun had done its work with the pitch no longer behaving like a sponge. Pace bowlers Alex Borley and Jethro Menzies opened the bowling, after the first 4 overs the score had been held down to just 6 runs with Menzies collecting two wickets. He added to this in the 5th over with a hat-trick, his second of the season. With the game in the bag captain Borley chose to spread the bowling around, wickets going to Sam Windham, Edward Coombs, Nick Smith, Michael Burke and James Dowell. For Pulborough S West was outstanding being the top scorer of the day with 37 not out.
