Lewes Priory v Ansty
U14 SAYCL
(at Lewes)
Toss won by Ansty
Due a heavy thunderstorm earlier in the day the only way that this match was able to take place was to play it on the artificial wicket. Fortunately this provided a true batting wicket, certainly much better that the damp square could have provided. Ansty started in a confident, if unspectacular, fashion with Jonny Crickmore and Ali Chisholm both retiring at 25 as the visitors reached 50 for the loss of one wicket in the eleventh over. Alex Borley (27 ret), Sofie Cawley (13no) and Will Sayers (9 no) then upped the run rate to set Lewes Priory 127 to win. In the reverse fixture earlier in the season they were bowled out for 31 and when captain Joe Eyles was bowled by the first ball of the innings it looked like history might repeat itself. However Coates (20), Long (24), Harris (19) and Warren (21) had other ideas and some big hitting put the home side ahead of the run rate after fifteen overs. Ansty captain Borley responded by bringing back his front line bowlers rather than share the remaining overs around. The strategy worked as Chisholm (2-12), Borley (3-11) and James Peace (2-12) put the brakes on to restrict Lewes to 110 for 8.
