Batting nine places above his usual position James Pearce made the most of this opportunity to open by edging a four past the wicket keeper before pushing eight singles and then finally smashing four consecutive fours to retire on 28. At the other end, Jonny Crickmore (25 retired) was gradually accumulating whilst the introduction of Alex Borley and Jethro Menzies briefly raised the tempo but when they both fell it was left to Ali Chisholm (15) and Will Bennett (27 retired) to maintain a run rate of 7 runs an over to leave the home side needing 165 to win. Martin (26 not out) got the Saints off to a great start but wickets continued to fall at the other end, most notably to the leg spin of Tom Coombs (4-5), who combined with keeper Crickmore on three of these, and Sophie Cawley (2-6). The last over saw the home side trying to reach 100 and the visitors attempting to take all ten wickets. Both failed as Burgess Hill finished on 95-9, 69 runs short.
