Lindfield v Ansty (at Lindfield Common)
U12 Identilam League
Toss: Won by Ansty
Lindfield won this thrilling Identilam League match by 7 wickets with just one ball to spare on a lovely sunny morning at the Common. Earlier Ansty had won the toss and elected to bat. Runs came regularly, both from the bat and from extras, but so did wickets and consequently only captain Tom Hadfield (16), Alex Bennett (10) and keeper Matt Davy (10) reached double figures. Nevertheless they set a reasonable target of 100 for 8 in their 20 overs. All of the bowlers chipped in but the pick were Harrison Blake with 2 for 6 and Scott Pedley with 2 for 21.
Ansty for once kept things tight in the field right from the first over and Lindfield were always behind the required rate. However they kept their wickets in tact and this was to prove valuable at the end. Opener Bridges was retired on 27 and his partner Lawrence (11) also reached double figures but after 13 overs Lindfield were only on 51 for 2 with Alex Bennett (2 for 15) and Will Howes (1 for 12) doing the damage. Overs 14 and 16 were crucial yielding 26 runs but even then Lindfield needed 7 from the final over. Tom Clark held his nerve and hit the penultimate ball for four leaving him unbeaten on 24.
