SAYL League Newhaven U11s v. Ansty U11s 15 July 2007 On a surprisingly pleasant morning after overnight thunderstorms, Newhaven won the toss and chose to bat. They made a sticky start against tight bowling with the first two overs being maidens. The last three pairs would need to build a defendable score. This was delivered by some lusty hitting by the third pair against some slightly wayward bowling, with Ian Robinson (20) and Jonathan Bennett (9) top scoring. Further contributions down the order and from extras got Newhaven to a total of 252 -8. The pick of the bowling was Will Wright (4-1-7-2) and Todd Haufek (4-1-15-2). The Ansty reply started slowly, but strong stroke play from Sam Palser (16), Dan Gardner (16 not out) and Dylan Howell (14 not out) forced Newhaven into changing their bowling order to slow the run rate. This was partly successful but it enabled the last pair of Will Wright (11 not out) and top scorer Todd Haufek (26 not out) to hit out at the end. The pick of the bowling was Jonathan Bennett (4-0-16-3) and Joe Weller (4-0-22-2) and the bowlers gave away very few extras but it was not enough to prevent Ansty reaching a total of 295-5 and winning convincingly by 43 runs Ansty won by 43 runs
