SAYL League
Ansty U-11 v Lewes Priory U11
Played at Staplefield on Saturday July 7th 2007

Ansty U11 won a tense SAYL league encounter with a well-drilled Lewes Priory side at a boggy Staplefield. With the wicket and outfield still very damp after the recent rain, runs were always going to be hard to come by - as Lewes discovered when they batted after winning the toss. A superb bowling and fielding performance by Ansty saw only three extras conceded as they limited the visitors to 215 for the loss of 11 wickets. Skipper Ed Coombs led the way with 3-6 and Liam Fitzpatrick took 2-13 with his flighted leg-spin. Will Wright, Todd Haufek, Bill Barker, Maxime Saxena, Sam Palser and Tim Hollis each chipped in with a wicket, with Saxena and Keeper Will Glenn bagging catches, Glenn claiming two stumpings and Palser two run-outs.
But Ansty certainly didn’t have everything their own way when they batted. Tight bowling, sharp fielding and some injudicious shots meant the home side leaked wickets consistently throughout their innings. However, Todd Haufek (24 not out) and Sam Palser (17 not out) both played with a good blend of aggression and circumspection, and Ed Coombs (10) and Will Glenn (13) finished the job capably to see Ansty home by 19 runs – despite losing 10 wickets in a total of 234.

Ansty won by 19 runs
