ANSTY v ST FRANCIS
40-over Friendly

Fifteen-year-old Henry Fowler took 5 for 28 as a makeshift Ansty XI lost at home in a 40-over friendly against St Francis. Fielding three fifteen-year-olds and one sixteen-year-olds in their side, Ansty’s young side gave a good account of themselves in their 44-run defeat. A wedding took away the main 1st XI and 2nd XI squads for the home side and St Francis started strong with an opening partnership of 93 before young Jamie Newsome had Dan Perera caught for 24. His partner, Ruwan Ranaweera, scored 99 before falling to a fine catch by under-16 colt Aiden Janman at long on, one of Fowler’s five wickets. Arjuna Ranaweera hit 30, but Ansty ripped through the lower order to leave St Francis bowled out for 209 with four balls remaining. Newsome finished with 2 for 30. In reply, despite losing an early wicket, Ansty batted steadily with fifteen-year-old South Of England prospect James Thorpe scoring 43 and Darren Senadhira making 51 in a partnership of 94 for the second wicket. Sanjay DeSilva ripped through the Ansty batting as they chased the target to finish with figures of 7 for 28. Skipper Rob Littlejohns hit 20no late on and Newsome hammered 28no off just 10 balls to give Ansty some respectability as they finished on 165 for 8.
