STREAT & WESTMESTON v ANSTY
(at Middleton Manor, Westmeston)
Toss: Won by Ansty
Ansty Cricket Club travelled to Middleton Manor on Saturday for their annual opening match of the season against Streat & Westmeston.   Ansty skipper Shaun Janman won the toss and elected to bat, opening with brothers Richard and Will Pike.   Scoring was slow on a damp wicket, and Streat removed both openers fairly cheaply with younger brother Will making 20.   Chris Nutter was joined by 14-year-old Sussex youngster James Thorpe and the pair put on useful runs before the latter was run out having made 12.   Tom Benham joined Nutter and moved the score on briskly before Nutter was caught behind having achieved his half-century and surviving four chances not taken in his innings by the Streat fielders.   Benham went on to make an unbeaten 61 as Ansty closed at tea on 182 for 6.   Darren Senadhira scored a modest 17 and Simon Parsons was unbeaten having made 13.   Joe Driver was the pick of the Streat attack with 2 for 27.
Colin Mansfield and Driver started the Streat reply cautiously, but after making 36, tried a tricky single to Chris Nutter and the dangerous Mansfield was run out having made 18.   The Ansty attack was having trouble with their run-ups, giving away 14 no-balls, but once the experienced duo of Simon Parsons and Shaun Janman joined the attack, wickets fell regularly.   Roger Spurr offered some resistance with a battling 26, but Janman ripped through the batting order taking 6 for 27 off 11.2 overs.   Parsons finished with 2 for 12.   Ansty won the match by 76 runs.
