Ansty 3rd XI are still looking for their first win of the season after a 2 wicket defeat in an exciting close match at Crawley Down II. They came within four balls of securing a deserved draw, but their score of 177 for 6 off 47 overs was not beyond the home side. James Robinson top scored for Ansty with 60, figuring in a 98-run partnership, a club record, for the fifth wicket with 16-year-old Ben Coombs, who made a personal best senior 35. Terry Croydon (28) also made a useful score, but tight bowling by Craig Myers (2 for 42) and skipper Steve Dawson (2 for 43) had the visitors struggling to score runs early on. In reply, Danny Todman (44), Tony Holden (31) and Myers (26) hit useful runs as Crawley Down were always up with the run-rate. Two wickets aiece for Alan Piolet and Alex Janjua did little to halt Down’s rhythm and they triumphed in the final over with two wickets spare.
