Stoner Mid-Sussex League Division Three ANSTY III v Scaynes Hill III (at St Francis, 08/05/04) Scaynes Hill III defeated Ansty III in their Stoner Mid-Sussex Division Three by just one wicket in a very close and low-scoring match.  Put into bat on a damp wicket, Ansty struggled against an accurate attack with Craig Patterson the pick of the bowlers.  He took 4 for 10 as Ansty were bowled out for 101.  John Vesey made a stubborn 31 and vice-captain Terry Croydon made 21.  In reply, a devastating opening spell by Alan Piolet had Hill struggling on 33 for 7 with Piolet taking 6 for 22.  Scaynes Hill skipper Mark Somerville joined opener Gary Parker and together they ground out a superb 66- run partnership for the eighth wicket to lead their side towards victory.  Parker made 39 before Aqeel Janjua took 2 wickets in four balls to offer Ansty hope.  However, Somerville struck the winning runs to clinch a narrow victory which looked unlikely at one stage.
