ANSTY v Billingshurst (at " The Poplars" , Ansty, 26/06/04)
Toss: Won by Billingshurst
Robert Littlejohns took a " hat-trick" for Ansty at home to Billingshurst, the first Ansty player to do so in the Invitation League, but his side were still unable to secure a deserved second win. Billingshurst inserted Ansty onto a damp track, but a combination of wides and quick scoring, the home side raced to 48 in just six overs. Richard Nichols (31) and David Croydon (18) put on an opening stand of 57, but Tasmanian pace bowler Jason Rigby got among the batsmen taking 5 for 49. A battling 45 from Jared Rowe and a speedy 21no from Barry Crouch enabled Ansty to reach 198 all out, with Chris Shambrook taking three late wickets. In reply, a superb opening spell by Simon Parsons (3 for 44) and Barry Crouch (2 for 19) had Billingshurst reeling on 23 for 5, but a dogged partnership by Peter Burroughs (47) and Ollie Botting (33) helped put on 73 for the sixth wicket. Littlejohns then produced a superb spell of bowling, which included his " hat-trick" , taking 4 for 11 which left the visitors hanging on at stumps on 120 for 9.
