ANSTY v SCAYNES HILL (at The Poplars, 15/05/04)
Toss: Won by Scaynes Hill
Ansty, having been put in by Scaynes Hill, found themselves two wickets down without a score on the board after an opening spell led by Craig Patterson. However, skipper Richard Nichols joined opener David Croydon and together they put on 119 for the third wicket. Croydon made 31 and Nichols went on to score 85 despite an injured back. Chris Nutter (25no), Simon Parsons (19no) and Paul Osborn (17) chipped in with useful scores as Ansty declared on 203 for 6. Patterson finished with 3 for 48 and Lee Pelling took 2 for 58. In reply, Hill began cautiously and never looked likely to overhaul the target, finishing on 164 for 5. Paul Elphick made an unbeaten 44 and Chris Markham scored 39. Former Burgess Hill batsman Paul Edwards, making his debut for Scaynes Hill hit 20. For Ansty, fifteen-year-old Alex Janjua took 2 for 19 and debutant Malcolm Waller took 2 for 72 and took two good catches in the field.
