Barns Green v ANSTY (at Barns Green, 05/06/04)

Bottom-of-the-table Ansty are still looking for their first win after a seven-run defeat at Barns Green. The home side were reeling on 29 for 3 after a superb spell of bowling by Barry Crouch, but Steve Godfrey (57) and Martin Hennock (74no) staged a recovery putting on 95 for the fourth wicket. Green skipper Phil Awcock hit a swift 23 to allow Barns Green to finish on 205 for 6 at 49 overs. Crouch took 3 for 49 for Ansty. The visitors found themselves in trouble at 22 for 3 with influential skipper Richard Nichols among the early victims, but Chris Nutter (31) and David Croydon staged a recovery. Croydon went on to score an unbeaten 65 to lead Ansty within eight runs of victory. He received support from Simon Parsons and young Alex Janjua (24 apiece), but Godfrey (4 for 74) and Ollie Lambkin (3 for 37) ensured victory for the home side with just eight balls remaining.
