Sunday, 23rd May 2004 BROADBRIDGE HEATH v ANSTY (U16s Identilam at Ansty) Ansty won the toss and elected to bat first. A firm base was established at the start of the innings by Llewelyn Boshoff (18) and Tom Freeman (25) which changed to a steady state when skipper Steffan Piolet scored his second 30 not-out of the season. Sam Goldsmith with his 17 runs battled to drive the game forward helping Ansty cross the 125 runs barrier to give them maximum batting points. Ansty finished their allocated 25 overs with 129 for 6. Opening bowlers James Nutter (5-0-23-1) and Billy Forde (2-0-18-1) hemmed in Broadbridge Heath’s top order and left them stunned. Alex Janjua (5-0-24-3) caused further damage to their middle/lower order. Steffan Piolet (5-0-9-3) dented the visitors confidence to a level where recovery was made impossible. Tom Freeman (3-1-6-1) took the penultimate wicket which enabled Broadbridge Heath to re-call its retired batsman. Then Simon Finch (0.5-0-2-1) rose to the challenge and within 3 balls earned Ansty its maximum match points by returning the visitors’ star batsman, Grant Overton, back to the pavilion. Mihir Desai, in his first game of the season, and Tom Freeman both made difficult catches look easy. Broadbridge Heath’s final tally was 103 all out. This decisive victory should enable Ansty U16s to face the future with a positive confidence.
