ANSTY v BURGESS HILL
(U13 ECB Cup at Ansty)
Ansty met Burgess Hill at the Poplars in the ECB U13 Cup on 19th May. Both sides fielded younger players as several key performers were otherwise engaged in Warden Park’s tie at Dulwich College.
Burgess Hill batted first and made a good start as openers Baker (10) and Harris (12) combined well in an opening partnership of 32. However, economical bowling from Ansty’s attack of Jack Anderson, Rory Dormer, Cooper May and Alex Borley, supported by good ground fielding, began to build the pressure on the visitors and slow the scoring. Four wickets fell to run outs as Hill pressed for extra runs; Anderson, Alex Peace and Joe Newcombe (twice) the architects. Simpson (10) was the only other Hill batsman to reach double figures as the innings closed on 51 for 5 after 20 overs. May (1-10) took the only wicket to fall to a bowler.
Ansty eased past the Burgess Hill total in the 13th over, but not before Chris Barnes (12) had fallen to Brockes and Mountain (6) had been removed by Chisolm. Alex Pearce (20no) and Joe Newcombe (4no) saw the hosts home.
