COLTS' SECTION NEWSLETTER  FEBRUARY 2002
As
you will recall from our presentation evening, Mike Littlejohns has decided to step down from his position as Chairman of the Colts' section. After a number of years and a healthy balance sheet, John Symons has also decided to pursue other interests. Therefore, I would first of all like to take this opportunity to thank Mike and John for all their hard work and dedication.    I think it's time to let you know what is planned for 2002 and to invite you to register for what will definitely be a busy and exciting season. LEAGUES We will be participating in a number of fixtures to provide our Colts with a full and varied season of cricket, entering three different leagues i.e. RSA, NMS, and Brighton & Hove plus other competitions: U15 Sun Life of Canada U14 RSA Six-A-Side U13 Subaru U10 Flora Trophy and, of course, the Sussex Junior Festivals for U14s, U12s & U11s.   INDOOR NETS A number of professional coaching sessions have already been conducted by Steve Gatting at Great Walstead School for U12s and U14s. We have also arranged to provide these professional sessions for U9s/10s at Warden Park School which no doubt will be developmental for our budding cricketers. U10 nets will be at Warden Park School on Fridays - February 15th & 22nd, March 1st, 8th, 15th and 22nd from 1800-2000 hrs and will cost £ 2 per session. U11-U16 nets will be at Great Walstead School on Saturdays - February 16th & 23rd, March 2nd, 9th, 16th, and 23rd from 1730-1930 hrs except 16th March which will be from 1800-2000 hrs and will cost £ 2 per session. Please bring along any friends as new members will be most welcome. SAFETY A reminder that it is very important to ensure that you are well protected with box, pads, gloves etc. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has issued safety guidelines which recommends that HELMETS should be worn when batting against a  hard cricket ball in matches and in practice sessions. The guidelines also recommend that young wicket keepers should wear a HELMET when standing up to the stumps. The guidelines apply to all young players up to the age of 18. (I have not attached the letter referred to on the form as most of you will have received this when you first signed the consent - however if you would like a copy, please call me and I will send you one). Please note that the Club does not provide helmets. Please indicate your choice on the registration form and also complete the consent form attached which could be demanded by the host team at away matches and return it to the address below. Please note, the first net session will take place on Friday 15 February 2002 so registration and consent forms must be received before that date for insurance purposes. OLD CRICKET KIT Should you have any old kit which you have outgrown, please bring it with you to your first session, labelled with your name and the asking price and we will try to pass it on.  However, should you wish to donate it to the Club for general use, it would be thankfully received. COUNTY AND DISTRICT SQUADS Several colts have been invited to attend nets for the County and District squads and we wish them all luck and hope they will be selected. SENIOR CRICKET Peter Fowles is again our link with the Senior Club and will be doing his best to provide weekend senior cricket for those who indicate an interest on their registration form. SPONSORED CLOTHING/ " ...ITIS!" MAGAZINE
Paul
Beaumont's company MXV has been providing sponsorship for the Colts for a number of years and this year MXV has also sponsored a number of items of clothing e.g., shirts and jumpers so please contact Joe Mott to place your order before the seasonal demand overtakes the supply of these 'logoed' shirts and jumpers. CRICKET SUBS These have been held at £ 15 for U11 and £ 20 for older Colts. There will be no fees payable for matches. ANSTY SPORTS & SOCIAL CLUB A reminder that we need to have adequate Public Liability Insurance to cover our sporting activities and this is provided by our individual membership of the Ansty Sports & Social Club. COACHING COURSES For those parents who are interested in helping out at practice or getting more involved during the league and festival games, the Club has arranged a free of charge 6-hour coaching day on 7th April 2002 which is aimed at parents who want to help with coaching but require either the basic cricketing skills or a refresher to enable them to coach with confidence. Ansty Cricket Club is more than willing to organise further one day coaching sessions for parents who would like to help with coaching, umpiring and scoring. Please contact me if you would like to attend one of these courses or if you require more details. FUND RAISING We were fortunate last year to host a match between Ansty and Old Sussex XI which enabled us to raise more than £ 2,000. We have invested a portion of this money in professional coaching for our Colts and also intend to spend the rest of the money, together with a substantial sum from the senior club and other sponsors, to refurbish our outdoor nets. Therefore, I would like to ask everyone to put forward as many good suggestions as we can to generate additional funds for our Club.    If any of you have any suggestions for fund raising activities or you know of any Company or individuals who may be interested in sponsoring the Club or advertising in our publications, please contact me at the email address below. I look forward to receiving your completed registration forms (self-addressed envelope enclosed) and all your emailed suggestions and comments.  Please feel free to contact me. Most of all, enjoy your cricket and have a good season.
